This convenience has made it a bustling hub for travelers, and while it might lack the sleepy, deserted-island vibe of others, it makes up for it with energy and an incredible array of options.

Renting a bicycle and cycling down the sandy lanes, past endless rows of fruit trees, is an experience you won't find on any other island.

The vibe here is incredibly laid-back. Life moves at a slower pace, and the island feels spacious and green. Thoddoo has two stunning tourist beaches, and they are absolutely massive. You can always find a quiet, shaded spot under the palm trees to call your own for the day. The house reef is fantastic for snorkeling, and I had one of my most memorable travel moments here, swimming alongside majestic sea turtles just a few feet from the shore. They are so common here, the locals almost see them as resident pets.

The South Ari Marine Protected Area is one of the only places on earth where you can spot these gentle giants year-round, and Dhigurah is right in the heart of the action.

Joining a whale shark excursion here is a must. The feeling of slipping into the water and seeing that enormous, polka-dotted silhouette glide past is indescribable. It’s a humbling and profoundly moving experience. But it’s not just about whale sharks. The atoll is also famous for manta rays, and the diving and snorkeling in the area are simply world-class. The reefs are vibrant and teeming with life, from colorful schools of fish to reef sharks and turtles.

The island itself is beautiful, with a seemingly endless stretch of white sand that culminates in a stunning sandbank at its tip. It’s much quieter than Maafushi, with a focus on eco-tourism and marine conservation. You’ll find passionate, knowledgeable guides and a community that has a deep respect for the ocean. Dhigurah offers that perfect blend of jaw-dropping adventure and serene island beauty. It’s a place that reminds you just how magical our planet’s oceans are.
